Garmin GPS
The GPS did a good job finding where I was and recalculating quickly. It did sometimes take me off of main roads to side roads, which I still don't understand. Thankfully it doesn't happen often. The system is quick and easy to use, but yet not always intuitive. I have not yet found out how to display additional attributes on the map screen, that I was accustomed to from a model from another manufacturer. I like this system, and what is important to me is it's quick recalculation as I often travel in and out of congested areas and need quick mapping.

Out of the Box
I don't know why I never bought a GPS system until now!

Right out of the box it worked like a charm. So easy to set up and use. I haven't used the "traffic" feature yet so I don't haven an opinion.

I was researching all types of these systems over the last couple of months. It can be a bit intimidating just how many there are. But after careful research... reading over customer reviews, professional reviews, I feel I picked the best one.

**When it did arrive by UPS however, the box was just about squashed into a mess. I was afraid to even start the GPS thinking that it was damaged during the delivery. I don't think the driver was expecting me to come to the door as it looked like he was just going to leave it and run. I had paid for a RUSH delivery, it arrived on time, but was surprised I didn't have to sign for it. What's up with that?

The low down
i previously had a magellan 4250 but the power connection socket broke so i decided to try another manufacturer.

the pros:

the screen is vivid and clear, the maps are much better quality and provides better navigation instructions.

the cons:

as others have mentioned, does not allow the input of zipcodes (ie: slows you down), the look up of info is very slow. i typed toys r us and it took about 30 seconds for the unit to respond (bad reception in DC?). the touch screen buttons are too small so prone to input mistakes (ie: slows you down). even worse, the unit freezes about 1 second after each character you input (perhaps my unit is defictive). finally, the nuvi couldn't find IKEA. perhaps it was having a bad day so will try IKEA again (i know the location, but am still trying out the unit to compare it with the magellan). so after about a month of use, not very happy at all.

I Love my Garmin
For a person who gets lost in his own back yard "I Love MY Garmin". I especially like the traffic feature and the different options of elevation or time to destination, etc.

Does not live up to it's billing
I have used and owned many Garmin units, both aviation and automotive, and have always been impressed until I bought the Nuvi 765T. My last car unit was a C340 and it was great for its time. When I decided to upgrade to a unit with bluetooth and traffic that would acquire faster, I chose the 765T. The features, screen and acquisition speed are just what I expected. The inability to calculate a route quickly or accurately was totally disappointing. Matters got even worse when I contacted Garmin Customer Support. After 3 emails and 3 agonizing waits on hold (each hold was more than 30 minutes, even when calling right when they open) I was told the unit needed to be RMA'd. When the RMA'd unit still would not calculate a complete route (always hung at 99% no matter where the beginning or end) Garmin customer support gave up and never returned another email. I have since given up on Garmin. I bought a Magellan Maestro 4700 and it is working better than expected.

I can not express how disappointed I am with both this 765T and the Garmin customer support. I would stay away from this unit, and possibly company, in hopes they will return to the company they once were.
